We’re movin’ on up

Filed under: Getting settled, holidays — Shirley @ 2:34 am

to the East Side, to an apartment in the sky… Ok, we’re not the Jeffersons, and it’s only to the second floor at Parc Stevens. But yay, we’re almost out of the temporary housing. Nice as it was to be here, it’s going to be so nice to have a place to put up our feet and call ‘home’.

Yesterday we spent a couple of hours at Star Hub getting our cable tv, cell phones and wifi. The technicians will come on Sat to set up the wifi. When we go over to the apartment later this morning we’ll connect the cable box for tv. So now I won’t miss Monk or Desperate Housewives! We also got a movie channel, which we never did at home. They offer HBO but we opted for Star Movies instead. I was never impressed with what they showed on HBO at home. And our cell phones are activated and working fine.

Over the weekend we went over to Fraser Place and Mohammed Sultan Road to poke around. Fraser Place is the other serviced residence and it seems to offer alot more than what is available over here at Fraser Suites.

piazza at Fraser Place

For one, there is this piazza behind Fraser Place. It was ringed with restaurant/bars/cafes. Very european. We didn’t know this existed but noticed on the shuttle when it stopped at the front of FP a couple of restaurants and thought we’d come over and see what they had to offer here, and it was a whole new world! We stopped off at a restaurant/bar called, ‘brusselsprouts’ that featured Stella Artois (on tap), frites and mussels. It was in between time for dinner so we had a Stella and some onion rings. I’m not fond of those steak fries. I can tell you where to get the best fries in the world in New York though!

I’ve passed this place on Mohammed Sultan Road, don’t you just love the name of this street? I love it!!! I love saying it. Oh, this is the cutest place:

paw petsign

I’ll read you the sign: “Dogs Allowed” “This cafe serves dog owners and their dogs. Owners are to ensure their dogs are healthy.”

I think it should also read that dogs should be able to play well with others! But isn’t that the coolest :) I have to get a dog now just so I can go there and mingle. So when you come visit, bring Fido :)

Halloween is almost here in Singapore too, albeit a bit expensive :)

pumpkin

The Embassy is having a Halloween costume party for the kids. And Fraser Suites is also having a party for the kids here, which I think is really nice. You can sign up to allow the children to knock on your door for trick-or-treating but unfortunately we won’t be here. I’m not sure what they’ll be doing over at our complex. I’ll let you know in the next posting. I’m going to miss seeing the little ones that come to the house in Columbia, and carving pumpkins.

restaurant row

Also along Mohammed Sultan Road is this block of colorful shuttered shops. Most of them are restaurants and what a mix of cuisines. There is Vietnamese/French, Chinese, Japanese/Satay, Persian, Indian, Southern Italian. etc.

We were headed to the Persian restaurant, but they were not opened on Sunday. Instead we went back over to Frazer Place and went to Mamma Lucia’s! It was not the local Mamma Lucia’s chain from Hanover MD. I’m always skeptical of getting gnoochi but these were light and delicate. Excellent choice.

entry

Got to run for now, heading over to Parc Stevens in a little while. Will get back to you with more news later this week. Oh, by the way before I forget… We’re taking the Tiger Beer Brewery tour tonight… stay tuned for that report. :)
